Description
Founded in 1692, Domaine de l'Oratoire Saint-Martin is one of the benchmark estates of the Cairanne appellation in the Southern Rhône Valley. Farmed organically and biodynamically, the estate follows a low-intervention philosophy to express the purity of its limestone terroirs. Les Douyes is one of its flagship single-vineyard wines, produced from century-old vines.
Les Douyes Rouge comes from an east/northeast-facing single vineyard planted with 100-year-old vines on limestone-rich clay soils. Made primarily from Grenache and Mourvèdre, it combines power, elegance and remarkable freshness. Hand harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in large oak foudres, it faithfully reflects its exceptional terroir.
Tasting
Appearance: Deep garnet-red colour with purple highlights.
Nose: Intense aromas of blackberry, raspberry, blackcurrant and black cherry, complemented by leather, liquorice, black pepper, sweet spices and Mediterranean herbs.
Palate: Rich, concentrated and beautifully balanced with silky tannins, vibrant freshness and pronounced minerality. Dark fruit, pepper and liquorice lead to a long, elegant and persistent finish.
Food Pairing: Excellent with roast lamb, grilled beef, game, merguez sausages, Provençal beef stew, slow-cooked meats and aged cheeses.
