Description
Maison Joseph Drouhin, founded in Beaune in 1880, is one of Burgundy's great family-owned wine houses. For four generations, the Drouhin family has crafted wines with the ambition of expressing Burgundy's remarkable terroirs with precision, elegance and authenticity. With a portfolio spanning more than 90 appellations, Joseph Drouhin offers an exceptional journey through Burgundy, from regional appellations to the most prestigious Premier and Grand Crus.
The Maison has been awarded the Grappe d'Or by Gault&Millau, recognising the excellence of its wines and its place among Burgundy's leading producers.
Grands-Échezeaux Grand Cru is one of the crown jewels of Flagey-Échezeaux and among the Côte de Nuits' most prestigious Grand Crus. Located immediately above Clos de Vougeot, separated only by a stone wall, it occupies one of Burgundy's finest terroirs. Its name derives from the Old French word "chezal" (plural "chezeaux"), meaning a hamlet. The monks of Cîteaux, already owners of Clos de Vougeot, long dreamed of acquiring neighbouring Musigny. Unable to do so, they focused their ambitions on Grands-Échezeaux, determined to create a vineyard worthy of its illustrious neighbour. Before vines were planted, the site formed part of an important agricultural estate belonging to the monks of the Abbey of Saint-Vivant. Its deep brown limestone soil, rich in clay and resting on Bajocian limestone bedrock, produces a Pinot Noir of remarkable nobility, combining elegance, depth and exceptional finesse.
