Description
Towns where the appellation is produced: Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis.
The site: halfway between Chambertin and Musigny, and yet less well known. The vineyards stretch over two communes: Morey-Saint-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny. The parcel owned by Joseph Drouhin is located in Chambolle-Musigny.
History & tradition: according to legend, a ploughman discovered a sculpture in the ground representing the three goddesses of fertility, known as the "Good Mothers". The name then became "Bonnes-Mares". "Mares" may also come from the Old French word "marre", meaning a winegrower's tool, as the old quarries here were good digging grounds.
Soil: gently sloping, light, mixed with limestone pebbles.
Tasting
A racy wine. The colour is a luminous, intense ruby red. The complex aromas are reminiscent of morello cherry, cherry wood and raspberry, with discreet touches of brown tobacco depending on the vintage. With age, it reveals notes of truffle and musk. On the palate, a fine balance between body and mellowness. Remarkably long-lasting.
