The Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru comes from one of the Côte de Nuits' most celebrated vineyards, perfectly positioned between Chambertin and Musigny. The Grand Cru spans the communes of Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis, with Maison Joseph Drouhin's parcel located on the Chambolle side. According to local legend, a ploughman discovered a sculpture depicting the three "Good Mothers"—goddesses of fertility—from which the vineyard is believed to derive its name. Another theory links the name to the Old French word "marre", a vineyard tool once used in the old stone quarries found on the site. Its gently sloping, limestone-strewn soils produce a Pinot Noir combining power, refinement and remarkable ageing potential.

Appearance: Brilliant, intense ruby-red colour.

Nose: Complex aromas of Morello cherry, cherrywood and raspberry, complemented in some vintages by subtle tobacco notes. With age, the bouquet evolves towards truffle and musk.

Palate: A wine of great pedigree, beautifully balancing structure and silky texture. The finish is exceptionally long, refined and persistent.

Food Pairing: Excellent with beef fillet, roast pigeon, venison, hare, feathered game or mature cheeses such as Époisses.
