Description

Maison Joseph Drouhin, founded in Beaune in 1880, is one of Burgundy's great family-owned wine houses. For four generations, the Drouhin family has crafted wines with the ambition of expressing Burgundy's remarkable terroirs with precision, elegance and authenticity. With a portfolio of more than 90 appellations, Joseph Drouhin offers an exceptional journey through Burgundy, from regional appellations to the most prestigious Premier and Grand Crus.

The Maison has been awarded the Grappe d'Or by Gault&Millau, recognising its outstanding quality and its place among Burgundy's leading producers.

The Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is one of Burgundy's oldest and most prestigious Grand Crus. Located in Gevrey-Chambertin, in the northern Côte de Nuits, it enjoys an ideal east-facing exposure and a gentle slope. Its history dates back to 630 AD, when the monks of the Abbey of Bèze became owners of the vineyard and enclosed it with stone walls, creating one of Burgundy's earliest vineyard clos. The name "Bèze" derives from an old dialect word meaning small stream and is also shared by the nearby village famous for its underground caves. Its terroir of red clay, limestone and rocky scree produces a Pinot Noir of extraordinary depth, combining power, refinement and exceptional ageing potential.

Tasting

Appearance: Deep, intense ruby-red robe with brilliant clarity and garnet edges.

Nose: Youthful expression of ripe black cherry and bitter chocolate; with age, earthy forest-floor, truffle and licorice appear. After fifteen years, preserved fruits linger alongside leather and civet nuances.

Palate: Powerful yet velvety tannic frame perfectly balanced by fresh acidity. Long finish echoes black cherry and licorice—a true kaleidoscope of sensations.

Food Pairing: Grilled rib-eye steak, hare civet, wild-mushroom risotto, or well-aged hard cheeses such as mature Gouda.
