Description
The house has been in family hands for 130 years. Today, the fourth generation is pursuing the quest for that ‘elegant perfection’ for which Joseph Drouhin wines are renowned, by perpetuating tradition and innovating. The Domaine Joseph Drouhin has been built up over the decades, and now covers 73 hectares in the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise and Chablis.
With around 90 appellations, made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, Joseph Drouhin offers a fascinating discovery of the Burgundy terroir, with respect for the land, the vines and the environment.
Tasting
Appearance: deep ruby colour, often with purplish highlights, quite bright — suggesting good density.
Nose: seductive and expressive aromas of ripe red and black fruits — black cherry, blackberry, sometimes blueberry — with floral touches (violet) and a subtle hint of oak or spice depending on ageing.
Palate: ample and structured body — present but elegant tannins, silky texture, smooth attack, evolving towards juicy fruit flavours. Shows depth, concentration and a beautiful balance between fruit, structure and freshness.
Food Pairing: pairs particularly well with grilled or sauced red meats, game, rustic dishes, as well as sauced poultry or mushroom-based recipes. Also ideal with confit poultry, stew, forest-style sautéed dishes, or aged cheeses.
Serving Temperature: between 16 and 18 °C, ideally opened about one hour before tasting to fully release its aromas and soften the tannins.
