Description
Maison Joseph Drouhin, founded in Beaune in 1880, is one of Burgundy's great family-owned wine houses. For four generations, the Drouhin family has crafted wines with the ambition of expressing Burgundy's remarkable terroirs with precision, elegance and authenticity. With a portfolio spanning more than 90 appellations, Joseph Drouhin offers an exceptional journey through Burgundy, from regional appellations to the most prestigious Premier and Grand Crus.
The Maison has been awarded the Grappe d'Or by Gault&Millau, recognising the excellence of its wines and its place among Burgundy's leading producers.
Échezeaux Grand Cru is one of the Côte de Nuits' most prestigious Grand Crus, located in the commune of Flagey-Échezeaux, between the legendary Clos de Vougeot and Musigny vineyards. Its name derives from the Old French word "chezal" (plural "chezeaux"), meaning a small hamlet. Long before vines were planted, the site was home to an important agricultural estate cultivated by the monks of the Abbey of Saint-Vivant, who played a major role in developing Burgundy's vineyards. Its gently sloping, east-facing clay-limestone soils allow Pinot Noir to express outstanding finesse, depth and timeless elegance.
Tasting
Appearance: Deep ruby colour with violet highlights, intense and radiant — indicating a powerful yet refined Grand Cru Pinot Noir.
Nose: Complex and noble bouquet, revealing deep ripe red and black fruit aromas (blackcurrant, Morello cherry), elegant floral hints (violet), subtle forest floor nuances, gentle spice, and a touch of liquorice that adds depth and intrigue.
Palate: Broad and velvety attack, with a backbone of fine but present tannins. The palate unfolds rich flavours of dark fruit, black chocolate and exotic spices, supported by refreshing acidity and a long, profound and elegant finish.
Food & Wine Pairing: Superb with refined, structured dishes such as game in rich sauce, braised beef, herb‑crusted rack of lamb, hare stew, or with aged cheeses. Also pairs beautifully with a porcini risotto.
