Description
Perched high on the majestic banks of the Douro River, Quinta Boavista is a landmark wine estate wholly devoted to the honest expression of its terroir. Under the direction of Ricardo Macedo and with the guidance of Jean-Claude Berrouet – the legendary oenologist behind Château Pétrus – the Quinta produces red wines of great depth, balance, and elegance. Each cuvée represents an ongoing pursuit of excellence, blending Portuguese tradition with Bordeaux expertise to showcase the full complexity of the Douro’s finest wines.
Located near Pinhão on the right bank of the Douro, Quinta da Boavista offers breathtaking views of the river. It is regarded as one of the region’s most iconic estates, celebrated for both its historical legacy – including its connection to Baron Forrester – and its 36 hectares of high-quality vineyards.
Among its most treasured plots, Vinha do Ujo stands as a living testament to decades of dedication to a unique and charismatic terroir. Planted in 1930 on horizontal, pre-phylloxera-style terraces supported by small schist walls, the vineyard features more than 25 indigenous grape varieties — a rare diversity preserved only in vineyards of such age. Facing north and situated between 180 and 210 meters in altitude, these small terraces are meticulously cared for year after year by the skilled hands of those who live and breathe the Douro.
