Description
The harvest is usually amongst the earliest within the Bordeaux region. In order to preserve the fruit and acidity, the whites are hand-harvested in the morning when the temperatures are the coolest.
Terroir: The combination of great gravelly sandy soils and classic gravelly clay soils, characteristic of the left bank of Bordeaux, favours the production of great red wines. The coolest clay-limestone and clay-gravel soils, are reserved for whites. They are less present in the vineyard, which explains the lower proportion of white wine production.
Winemaking: Methods of juice extraction are adjusted each year in order to obtain the most expressive and powerful wine. The use of Semillon grapes is significant in Château Baret white wines. The wine is vinified and aged in oak barrels on lees for 8 to 10 months, then is stabilised and bottled before the summer following the harvest.
Tasting
Appearance: Bright pale yellow colour with delicate green highlights, offering beautiful brilliance in the glass and suggesting expressive freshness.
Nose: Elegant and lively aromatic bouquet, dominated by notes of citrus (lemon, grapefruit), juicy pear and white flowers, with subtle hints of minerality that add depth.
Palate: Fresh and clean on the attack, with a balanced structure between liveliness and roundness. Flavours of citrus and white fruits linger, supported by refreshing acidity and a silky texture.
Food pairing: This versatile white wine pairs well with grilled fish or light sauces, seafood, composed salads, creamy poultry dishes, as well as fresh or soft cheeses.
Serving temperature: Serve chilled, ideally between 10 °C and 12 °C, to fully express the wine’s aromatic freshness and balance.
